Affordable Housing
Sarah's Circle provides not only a place for
seniors to live, but also a home in which they take pride,
build community, and find peace and security - often for the
first time in their lives.
Sarah's Circle has become a beacon of hope and a stabilizing
force in the Adams Morgan neighborhood. Our well-maintained building
stands in stark contrast to the urban blight surrounding it.
We continually strive to meet our goal of having residents
pay no more than 30 percent of their net household incomes, after
deductions for prescription drugs and utilities, to rent. This is
the ratio recommended by the Department of Housing and Urban Development
Section 8 program.
Unit Description
Sarah's Circle owns and maintains a 34-unit
apartment building in the heart of Adams Morgan.
Without the help of government subsidies, we
provide a safe, clean home to 36-42 low-income elderly members
of the community. While total occupancy varies depending on
turnover time and family size, we always have a waiting list
and fill apartments as soon as they become available.
Our apartments range from efficiencies to
two-bedroom apartments. All apartments have full kitchens
and bathrooms
Eligibility
Sarah's Circle is a diverse and caring community.
Our seniors are over 62-years old and have incomes defined
as "low," very low," and "extremely low" under HUD Section
8 guidelines.
Although we seek to provide many kinds of support
for our residents, Sarah's Circle is an apartment building
only for seniors who are able to live independently.
