Sarah’s Circle to Begin Redevelopment

Sarah’s Circle will begin the redevelopment of its property beginning in 2017 with completion anticipated for early 2018. This exciting project will result in the reconfiguration of our building to add 15 new units of affordable housing for very low-income seniors, which will help us house 15 of the more than 340 individuals currently on our waiting list.

We will continue to post updates on every phase of our redevelopment on our website. If you would like more information on this exciting project or would like to learn more about how you can become involved, please email jpetro@sarahscircle.org or call (202) 332-1400 ext. 11.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy winter and stay tuned for more information!

2014 Circle of Life Award Event a Tremendous Success!

Thank you to all who attended our 2014 Circle of Life Award on September 11, 2014. We had a fantastic time honoring the life and career of Robert Pohlman, retiring executive director of the Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development, who reminisced about his more than 40-year career fighting for the preservation of affordable housing for low-income seniors and families throughout DC and the surrounding area. Bob was introduced by Washington Post veteran Colbert I. King, who highlighted Bob’s commitment to the most vulnerable in DC, his lengthy and storied career, and his love of baseball – particularly the Washington Nationals. If you were unable to join us for this event, we hope you will consider joining us in the fall of 2015 as we host yet another exciting event!

Hexagon Tickets: Available Now!

Did you know that Sarah’s Circle is the beneficiary for this year’s Hexagon season? We are excited about this partnership and encourage you to purchase tickets to see one of their hilarious shows during the upcoming season in March 2014. To learn more and to purchase tickets, please visit http://www.hexagon.org/tickets/

So what is Hexagon? In their own words:

We are musical, we are satirical, we are theatrical. We are Hexagon. Proceeds go to area charities. Every year since 1956, this nonprofit has put on Washington’s only all-original revue of its kind—with more than $3.5 million donated to 40-plus organizations. Our all-volunteer membership makes up the cast, crew, orchestra, front of house, and production team. We even write our own material. Our mission: to use theatre arts to help improve the lives of others within our community.

We hope to see you at one of their lively and exciting shows in March!

Sarah’s Circle and Options Public Charter School Featured in the Washington Post

Sarah’s Circle was honored to be featured with its partner, Options Public Charter School, in an article discussing the work the Options students are doing with our Sarah’s Circle seniors. What originally began as a day of beauty for male and female Sarah’s Circle residents has quickly become an opportunity for seniors and high school students to mingle over delicious snacks provided by the Options culinary students while receiving free hairstyling, spa, and nail services from students working toward a degree in cosmetology. You can read more about this innovative partnership here.

If you know of a senior in need of a place to go during the day – for meals; health education, exercise, yoga, and meditation; social activities; or companionship – please call our program coordinator at (202) 332-1400 ext. 12 or email rtonge@sarahscircle.org.
