Classes
Health
The ability of older persons to live independently depends in part on strong physical health. Sarah’s Circle provides nutrition and wellness seminars in order to educate seniors about the importance of diet and weight management. Information sessions on disease prevention provide vital information and help dispel rumors about chronic illness symptoms and age-related aches and pains.
Sarah’s Circle also provides yoga and meditation sessions to help seniors improve their minds, bodies, and spirits in a safe, supportive, and social environment. Our popular exercise class is held every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday and focuses on four key wellness indicators: cardiovascular health, strength and flexibility, muscle tone, and balance.
We also host a weekly wellness clinic staffed by a nursing student from Marymount each Wednesday morning at 9:30am. We offer routine screenings and one-on-one counseling and advice. Walk-ins are welcome.
Creativity
Exploring the arts is one of the best ways that seniors can continue to expand their mental capacities. Watercolor classes are held every Monday at 1:00pm and creative writing seminars are provided every other Wednesday at 1:00pm.
Social
We offer a daily calendar of activities designed to encourage seniors – particularly those living alone – to form relationships with peers. From bingo to field trips to movies and more, Sarah’s Circle strives to keep our program participants engaged.
For a current monthly calendar of events, please contact our program coordinator at rtonge@sarahscircle.org or (202) 332-1400 ext. 12.
Educational
At Sarah’s Circle, we believe the learning process continues through all stages of life. We operate a full-service computer lab and a bi-weekly computer class to help seniors harness technology to complete their everyday tasks and to learn how to use computers to communicate and to explore the internet.
