Your gift to Sarah’s Circle will provide hot meals, supportive affordable housing, and programming designed to combat loneliness and foster independence for some of DC’s lowest-income senior citizens.
SARAH’S CIRCLE COVID-19 UPDATE
The health and safety of our residents remains our priority. All programs and events have been canceled and our community center and meal program will remain closed until the District has determined it is safe to reopen. Staff is on site every weekday and maintenance staff is sanitizing the common areas and touchpoints (door operators, elevator buttons, mailboxes, laundry machines, etc.) several times each day. We are strongly encouraging our residents to shelter in place in their units and only go out when it is unavoidable. We have also provided residents with reusable fabric face covers to wear when in the building, running important errands, or attending doctor’s appointments.
The DC Department of Aging and Community Living (DACL) is providing a week’s supply of meals that seniors who typically relied on daily lunch service can easily reheat. Through regular check-ins with residents, we are learning that many have taken this opportunity to practice their cooking skills, dust off their sewing machines, and catch up with friends and family by phone. Many others have downloaded and are mastering video conferencing technologies and are participating in group exercise classes, church services, and other activities remotely.
If a loved one or friend lives at Sarah’s Circle and you are concerned about them, please call (202) 332-1400 ext. 10 and we will help you check on them.
We are so incredibly grateful for the many individuals who have volunteered to help our seniors by running errands or providing telephone check-in support. We truly feel that we are all in this together and all of us at Sarah’s Circle hope for continued health for you and your loved ones.
